AL Reliever of the Year 2025 Favorites

Cleveland’s Emmanuel Clase has won two of the last three AL Reliever of the Year awards. Despite his dominance, Clase is not the favorite to win the award again this year. The following players are expected to fight for this honor.

Mason Miller (ATH) (+400)

The Athletics’ time in Oakland will come to an end soon, but that does not mean that the team cannot pick up some hardware on the way out. Third-year pitcher Mason Miller is the 4-1 favorite to win AL Reliever of the Year.Miller was an All-Star last season and finished fourth in the 2024 Rookie of the Year voting. He gave up six home runs and 23 total runs in his 65 innings pitched. The expectations are high for him, entering the new season.

Josh Hader (HOU) (+500)

Josh Hader is tied for the second-best odds to win AL Reliever of the Year in 2025. Hader earned five All-Star nominations and three Reliever of the Year awards in his eight seasons in the NL. He joined the AL last year but missed the cut for the ASG. Hader’s 3.8 ERA last season was the second-highest of his career. He also pitched 71 innings, his most since 2019, and earned 34 saves. If he can reign in his ERA, Hader will be a contender for Reliever of the Year this fall.

Devin Williams (NYY) (+500)

Speaking of former Brewers, Devin Williams joined the Yankees in December and is also listed at 5-1 to win this award. Williams and Hader combined for four straight Reliever of the Year Awards during their time in Milwaukee.Williams won Rookie of the Year and Reliever of the Year in the COVID-shortened 2020 season. He had a 0.80 ERA that year in 27 innings pitched. His ERA jumped to 2.5 in 2021 but has improved every year since and was 1.25 last year. If that trend continues and Williams helps the Yankees stave off a hangover from their World Series loss, he could win his second Reliever of the Year award.

NL Reliever of the Year 2025 Favorites

Ryan Helsley’s 49 saves and 79 strikeouts in 66 ⅓ IP were enough for him to win the Trevor Hoffman NL Reliever of the Year award in 2025. Despite his success last year, Helsley is not favored to repeat in 2025, but instead, here are the guys who the bookies identify as favorites.

Edwin Diaz (NYM) (+400)

Veteran reliever Edwin Diaz has won two Reliever of the Year awards. His first came in 2018, his last year with the Mariners. Diaz joined the Mets in 2019 and won his second Reliever of the Year title in 2022. He missed all of 2023 with a knee injury, but Diaz returned to the lineup last year. His 3.52 ERA was the second-highest of his career, and his 20 saves were his fewest in a 162-game season since his rookie year. On the bright side, Diaz should be healthier this season now that he is another year removed from his knee injury. If he returns to his 2022 form, his dominance on the mound will make him a great bet to win Reliever of the Year.

Ryan Helsley (STL) (+450)

The Cardinals’ Ryan Helsley won Reliever of the Year in 2024 despite an ERA of 2.04, the highest of any winner in the NL since 2019. His 1.100 WHIP was also the highest of any winner in the NL in over a decade.Helsley’s case for the award last year relied on his 49 saves, the most by any reliever since 2018. He also finished in a career-high 62 of the 65 games he appeared in. If Helsley can lead the MLB in saves again, he could become the first back-to-back winner in the NL since Josh Hader (2018, 2019).

2025 MLB Reliever of the Year Sleepers

Betting on sleepers is a great way to take advantage of the early MLB Reliever of the Year odds. Here are my top dark horse candidates for this year’s awards.

1. AL Reliever of the Year Sleepers

    • Jeff Hoffman (TOR) (+1200)
    • Lucas Erceg (KC) (+3500)
Jeff Hoffman earned his first All-Star appearance last year and set a career-best 2.17 ERA. If Hoffman can improve his ERA for the fifth straight season and earn double-digit saves again, he could make a run at Reliever of the Year. Another sleeper to consider is Kansas City’s Lucas Erceg, who was traded to the Royals last season. After taking over closer duties in KC, Erceg earned 11 saves and a 0.84 WHIP rating. Recreating that success for a whole season will be challenging, but KC needs Erceg to take a step forward to become true title contenders.

2. NL Reliever of the Year Sleepers

    • Kirby Yates (LAD) (+1300)
    • J. Puk (ARI) (+2500)
Kirby Yates was a runner-up for Reliever of the Year in the AL last season and made his second All-Star team. He also won the saves title in 2019 but is still searching for his first Reliever of the Year award. Standing out on a stacked Dodgers team will be tough, but Yates will also benefit from the added media attention that comes with playing on a defending champion.A.J. Puk is also a great sleeper option at 25-1 odds. His ERA improved significantly after a midseason trade to Arizona, from 4.3 in 32 games with Miami to 1.32 in 30 games with the Diamondbacks. If he can consistently deliver similar numbers, he will be a legit contender for Reliever of the Year.

MLB Reliever of the Year 2025 Predictions and Betting Picks

Here are my 2025 MLB Reliever of the Year predictions.

AL Reliever of the Year Prediction

The Yankees could not retain Juan Soto, but New York quickly shifted to bolstering the rest of its roster, including trading for Devin Williams. Williams is tied for the second-best AL Reliever of the Year odds. New York needs a strong season from Williams to repeat as AL champions, and he has already won this award once in his career. The odds for him are excellent, so that’s my pick for the American League.
The Bet
Devin Williams

NL Reliever of the Year Prediction

Edwin Diaz was dominant on the mound before his knee injury, winning two Reliever of the Year titles in his first seven seasons. He struggled last year, but all signs indicate Diaz will be healthier in 2025. Diaz can opt out of his contract after this year, so he has plenty of motivation to put together a career year and get a tasty deal for next season.
The Bet
Edwin Diaz
