NHL 2024-25 Worst Record Odds and Prediction: Which Team Will Finish Last?

The worst NHL team odds for 2024-25 offer a unique approach to hockey futures. While some teams in the NHL have Stanley Cup aspirations, other clubs are trying to stay out of the basement.

In this article, I examine the latest odds and share my predictions for the team to finish with the worst NHL regular season record in 2024-25.

2024-25 Worst NHL Team Odds

The following NHL worst record betting odds are courtesy of Bovada:

TEAMODDS
San Jose Sharks-550
Chicago Blackhawks+300
Nashville Predators+20000

After a 19-54-9 season with 47 points in 2023-24, the San Jose Sharks (-550) were favored to be the worst NHL team in 2024-25 at +165. Coming down the homestretch, the Sharks now have an 84.6% implied win probability, which is way up from 37.7% before the season!

Following the Sharks, the Chicago Blackhawks (+300) have the shortest odds for the worst record. The Blackhawks have Connor Bedard, but not much else around him and they could be prime pickings for teams ahead of the NHL trade deadline. Nashville (+20000) rounds out the list of options, but they have a veteran-laden squad that will play with pride.

2024-25 Worst NHL Team Options

The best of the worst was a competitive NHL betting market this season, but you can still find some value!

San Jose Sharks (-550)

The Sharks are mired at the bottom of the NHL standings with 43 points as of March 5, posting a 17-37-9 record. They’re the worst team in the league in terms of goal differential at -68, 15 goals worse than second-place Pittsburgh. San Jose was favored at NHL betting sites to be the worst team, according to the worst NHL team odds, and they have not disappointed, depending on which way you bet.

However, this was to be expected for the Sharks, and the young guys are still having fun and playing hard. 22-year-old William Eklund leads the team with 13 goals and 33 assists for 46 points, and even has a decent plus/minus of -2. Macklin Celebrini,  the #1 pick in last year’s NHL Draft, has 19 goals and 26 assists for 45 points, although he is a terrible -22.

The Sharks also have nine overtime losses, which is tied for third in the NHL, so they’re pushing teams. They’ll be in the draft lottery once again, but there are some solid pieces in place for the Sharks!

Chicago Blackhawks (+300)

The Blackhawks have a record of 19-35-7, which is just ahead of San Jose with 45 points. They have a -45 goal differential, and the vibes aren’t great in the Windy City.

Former #1 pick Connor Bedard leads the way with 16 goals and 33 assists for 49 points, while Teuvo Teravainen returned to Chicago in the offseason, and has 14 goals and 34 assists for 48 points.

But the team traded defenseman Seth Jones to Florida after he requested a move, and the Blackhawks might not be done before the trade deadline on March 7. It might get worse before it gets better, and at +300, the Blackhawks’ worst NHL record odds are looking pretty tasty!

Nashville Predators (+20000)

The Predators don’t offer any value in these NHL worst record odds, despite being just six points ahead of Chicago with 51, and a record of 22-32-7. This season is already a write-off for the Predators, who are probably going to have their worst 82-game point total since 2003!

While the Sharks and Blackhawks are young, the Predators are a veteran team, and I would think pride is going to prevent them from finishing with the league’s worst record. When you have players like Filip Forsberg, Jonathan Marchessault, and Steven Stamkos, I would bet on their guile to stay out of the basement.

The Predators could still make moves before the trade deadline, and it seems like teams are sniffing around Ryan O’Reilly, who has 16 goals and 23 assists for 39 points. But still, Nashville shouldn’t be the worst team in the league.

2024-25 NHL Worst Team Predictions and Betting Pick

I recommend a wager on the Chicago Blackhawks’ worst NHL team odds at +300 with around 20–22 games left in the regular season! The Sharks seem to at least like each other on the ice, while it’s a sour mood in Chicago. The Predators will get enough points to avoid this distinction, and I’m backing them just because they’re veterans that will find a way.

There is no value at all on the Sharks, and I think, despite the record and goal differential, that they’re better than the Blackhawks. I’m taking Chicago at +300!
